We absolutely love our portable playpen from California Beach Co. The playpen is lightweight and easily pops up. We also got the self-inflating mattress, which you honestly need for hard surfaces. We’ve been using the playpen inside on the wood floor and outside in our backyard which is all concrete – so definitely necessary! The playpen comes with spikes to use on the beach or grass, I really don’t think the mat will be necessary on top of grass but I’ll probably bring it along on the beach too. Side note – I cannot wait for our first beach day!
We recently brought the playpen to my parent’s place to be able to set Kash down without having to constantly worry, as he is now in the “getting into everything age”, extremely fast, and has the strongest fists when he’s holding onto something he definitely should not have. I did bring the mattress along, however, their place is fully carpeted so I think it would have been fine without it as well. Kash likes to drop around hard though so I’m always more comfortable with “better safe than sorry.”
In addition to the self-inflating mattress, we also got a fun cover. We chose the “whimsical wave” pattern but there are different options, it’s a cute way to show a little personality with the playpen.
The California Beach Co. POP N’ GO Playpen comes with a UV shade cover which is also extremely easy to put on. We were out in the backyard the other day and even the dogs came in the pen with us to escape the sun and cool off. Talk about roomie though, it comfortably fits this mama, baby, and two dogs!
While I believe this is a must-have for summer, I really love how we’ll get a good amount of use out of it during every season. We’ll be using it mostly outdoors for now, but it’s also convenient to keep in the trunk for those times when you may end up at a not-so-baby-proofed house or venue and you need a safe space to keep the little one! Just throw some toys in there (or hop in there with them!) and you have a safe play space.
